Tajima DST becomes Brother PES here. Nordic Snowflake opens with its colors removed, because a DST never stored them. The free PES uses Brother 64 placeholders in a fixed order. It does not claim those colors were in the DST.

Brand matching is a reading list. It is not written into the free machine file. DST files have no RGB to match.
The color-stop list beside the hoop shows every stop, its stitch count, Brother and Janome codes, and the ΔE for this brand.
Short stitches are under 0.4 mm. Long jumps are over 6.0 mm when the next command is not a trim. Paid cleanup uses 0.45 mm.

No RGB
DST and EXP store color stops only, not RGB. Nordic Snowflake on this page is 148.0 by 148.0 mm and 7,640 stitches, with two stops. Stop 1 reads Brother 64 #29 and stop 2 reads Brother 64 #2. Those indexes are placeholders in the order 29, 2, 5, 14, 20, 25.
The same order continues 5, 14, 20, and 25 if the file has more stops. They repeat after six. None of them were decoded from the DST, because there is no red, green, or blue byte to decode. Two readers can paint the same DST two different ways.
Rose Crest and Cafe Espresso Crest are on this page as DST as well. Their Madeira names are dropped on purpose. If you still know the thread, pick a brand on the main converter and use the paid pack to write real numbers. Do not treat the placeholder as a match.
EXP has the same limit. An EXP color change is a stop, not a swatch. If you open an EXP here, read it the way you read a DST. The path, the jumps, and the trims can move. The spool number cannot.
The PES you get
The download is a PES that starts with #PES0001. Nordic’s read-back size should be 148.0 by 148.0 mm and the stitch count 7,640. The signature line is the check that the file is PES, not a renamed DST with a new ending.
A 4×4 field is 100 by 100 mm, so Nordic exceeds it by 48.0 mm. The status says that before you send the file to a Brother. Scaling belongs on the resize page. This page does not silently shrink a design to force a fit.
Jumps and trims are counted on the same strip as the size. Nordic has 14 jumps and 3 trims in the built-in design. A DST that encoded a long move as a jump, not a trim, keeps that difference. The bench DST sample has one jump and zero trims.
The browser reads the file and forgets it. The PES is built in memory when you click download. Paid packs, if you use them, are also built in memory from coordinates and are not stored. There is no account and no cloud library.
What not to promise
CIEDE2000 matching needs an RGB value. Rose Crest stop 1 can match Madeira #1838 only when the RGB 180, 34, 50 is still in the design. After this page drops color, that match is gone. The Brother 64 line is not a ΔE.
If a customer sends only a DST, ask which thread they used. You cannot measure it from the file. The paid thread pack writes a brand number only when you still have a color to match. It will not invent Foxy Red from a stop command.
One file can be 10 MB and 250,000 stitches. Empty files and renamed text files error out loud. A file over 10 MB errors too. None of those cases leave a fake successful PES sitting on the hoop.
Sew a test on scrap with the stabilizer you will use. The placeholder palette will not match the garment thread. Change needles and thread at each stop using your own list, not the #29 and #2 labels, unless you chose those colors yourself.
Sequence
Nordic, Rose Crest, or Cafe loads with RGB removed. Or drop a real DST. Colors on screen are placeholders.
Stop 1 is Brother 64 #29 and stop 2 is #2. That order is assigned. It was not stored in the DST.
Nordic at 148 mm exceeds a 100 mm field by 48.0 mm. The status says Exceeds before you download.
Download PES. The signature should read #PES0001 and the size should match within 0.5 mm.
Where it fits
The path can move. The thread colors cannot. Tell the sew-er the stops are placeholders before they thread the machine. See the reverse, PES to DST.
Do not quote a Madeira number from this page. Quote the stop count, then ask the customer for the thread list. Read the DST color sheet.
EXP also stores stops without RGB. Treat it like DST when you assign colors for a PES. Match colors only when RGB exists.
The embroidery hoop size checker lists all 30 sewing fields in millimetres and inches. The DST thread color sheet shows why a Tajima stop has no RGB to recover.
Questions
DST stores a color-stop command, not an RGB value. Any color you see was assigned by the reader. It was not sewn into the file.
The free PES uses the Brother 64 palette as placeholders, in a fixed stop order starting at White #29 and Blue #2. Those numbers are not recovered thread colors.
No. If the source never stored RGB, matching cannot invent it. Choose a brand only when you still know the colors, then use the paid pack to write them into the file.
Yes. EXP stores color stops and does not store RGB. Treat an EXP the same way as a DST when you assign colors.
